Artwork by Highlandtown students, co-ordinated by UMBC Graduate MFA Research Assistant Dominique Zeltzman, created in response to Image Transfer: Pictures in a Remix Culture at UMBC’s Center for Art Design and Visual Culture. Lexie Mountain organized and installed HIGHLAND TRANSFER in an unoccupied storefront at Bank Street & Conkling with donated televisions, pedestals and theatrical window dressing. As a collage of collages, HIGHLAND TRANSFER is a tribute to Nam June Paik, a reference to shop windows of old and a medium for community youth to view their work in a way that empowers their artistic efforts as social benefit and beautification. Televisions were donated by members of the UMBC and Baltimore city community, and redistributed as free items at the close of the exhibition.
