TO OVERTHROW OR OVERTURN reveals the progressive, confrontational and confounding to School 33 on June 26, 2008. Curated as a response to a literal and metaphorical American cultural temperature, TO OVERTHROW OR OVERTURN addresses themes of accident, disaster, catastrophe and the resultant outcomes. Chance, change, improvisation and vision coexist, and a fearless approach to form and execution differentiates these exhibiting artists from their peers.The work of the artists featured in TO OVERTHROW OR OVERTURN asks the viewer to look beyond the simple binaries of cause and effect, natural versus imposed, redemption versus ruination, lowbrow versus highbrow. They transform paradigms of genre to create entirely new standards, and in doing so ask us to consider the outcomes possible when the envelope is pushed into a brand new shape.
